In 1789 on The HMS Bounty, the ancestor of Niko Devlin, William Purcell, ships carpenter, was set adrift with Captain Bligh by the mutineers on an open launch vessel.
In an attempt to obtain supplies, they landed on the island of Tofoa, where unfortunately the local residents weren't too welcoming. Captain Bligh casting off
seaward left Purcell to defend the launch and he barely escaped with his life. Depicted here in this artwork created by Niko based on a Robert Clevely painting from 1790.
